One historical figure, Winston Churchill, loved cats. Throughout his life, he owned many cats that captured the public’s attention such as Nelson, Mickey, and Tango. In 1962, Sir John Colville, one of Churchill’s private secretaries, gave him a marmalade-colored cat with a white bib and four white socks as a birthday gift. The cat was named Jock, after the secretary, and was loved by Churchill and his family. When Churchill passed away, the family asked that a marmalade cat named Jock always have residence at Chartwell, the ex-Prime Minister’s country home. The Winston Churchill’s country estate continues to honor the family’s wish. Jock VI, a marmalade-colored cat with white paws and bib, roams the property and gives tours.
