The University of Houston-Downtown Animal Rescue Club is a student community service organization. The Club adheres to the national “No-Kill” philosophy, best exemplified by such organizations as Austin Pets Alive. Our belief is that no cat or dog should ever be killed unless they are terminally ill and in pain; if they are severely incapacitated to the point that life becomes too great a burden to bear; or if they are behaviorally, irredeemably dangerous to humans. We strive to convert “kill shelters” to “no kill” shelters; to trap-neuter-and return community animals to their outdoor homes; and to provide a minimum of care to community cats. Through these means, Houston can join other cities and other parts of the country in preventing the birth of any cats and dogs not desired as pets. To us, all cats and dogs should have loving homes.
